MAKE THE EXERCISE CONNECTION
Did you know that only one in four U.S. adults get the recommended amount of daily exercise, which is 30 minutes of moderate activity on most days of the week, or 20 minutes of vigorous activity three days per week? What's even more alarming is that one in every three Americans say they don’t exercise at all! The reasons? According to some experts, it’s high-stress jobs and an abundance of sedentary activities like watching television and the surfing the Internet.* If you’re like most of us, starting a new exercise program can seem like a lot work. It’s easier to curl up at home with your favorite TV show after a long day than to drag yourself to the gym. But with the CortiSlim Lifestyle, exercise is about starting slowly and taking gradual steps. Best of all, you can get started by integrating moderate movement into your daily activities.
GET STARTED
One of the reasons you're contemplating a change to your lifestyle is stress. If you're like most people, your dog or cat enjoys your home more than you have the chance to! Thinking about fitting in fitness during your day may mean adjusting some parts of your life, making some time that's actually just for you! It also means using your time wisely and figuring out how to turn things you do every day into exercise opportunities. One way to do this is to be aware of your body while you go about your daily routines so that you can get more use of your muscles as you move. You can also try some of the following ideas:
- Walking
- Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
- Gardening
- Dancing
Work up to more advanced level activities, such as:
- Brisk walking
- Jogging
- Swimming
- Bicycling
- Playing tennis
EXERCISE PROGRESSION
Start with as many days per week as you can, and build up by an extra day each week until you’re exercising 6 days a week.
DURATION
Start with as many minutes as you can exercise, and add a minute each workout until you reach 45-60 minutes per session.
IMPORTANT: Talk to your doctor or other health care professional about starting a stress management, weight loss, weight management, or exercise program. Depending on your age and whether you have certain cardiovascular risk factors and/or medical conditions, you may need to see your physician before starting an exercise program. If you have chest pain, feel faint or light-headed, or become extremely out of breath while exercising or performing any physical activity, stop the activity at once and tell your doctor as soon as possible.
