Getting Started

Thinking about fitting in fitness during your day may mean adjusting some parts of your life, making some time that's actually just for you! It also means using your time wisely and figuring out how to turn things you do every day into exercise opportunities. One way to do this is to be aware of your body while you go about your daily routines so that you can get more use of your muscles as you move.

You can also try some of the following ideas:

  • Walking
  • Taking the stairs instead of the elevator
  • Gardening
  • Dancing


Work up to more advanced level activities, such as:

  • Brisk walking
  • Jogging
  • Swimming
  • Bicycling
  • Playing tennis

 
Exercise Progression

Start with as many days per week as you can, and build up by an extra day each week until you're exercising 6 days a week.
 
Duration

Start with as many minutes as you can exercise, and add a minute each workout until you reach 45-60 minutes per session.

 

Talk to your doctor or other health care professional about starting a stress management, weight loss, weight management, or exercise program.
